Writer's picture: The ComradeThe Comrade

With the recent influx in the economy in Kenya, it is extremely difficult to find a cheap and affordable joint to grab some food, especially in the CBD. Here is a compilation of some of the cheap joints to enjoy a meal with fellow students in the CBD from a comrade to another comrade;

  1. KLABU

Otherwise known as Club 36 is by far the cheapest and most recommended joint on all social media platforms and by students from all around Nairobi from Technical University to Mount Kenya to Moi and Kenya Methodist not forgetting The University Of Nairobi. Smocha is a comrade’s favorite seeing it only goes for fifty shillings only not forgetting to mention other delicacies in the Vibandas like beef ugali for a hundred bob and pilau. It is just a walking distance from UON’s main campus just behind Statehouse Road and the university hostels.

2. BAKER’S INN

If you're looking for pastries at a very pocket-friendly price then Baker’s inn in the heart of the CBD, Moi Avenue is the place for you. They have amazing prices for donuts and scones and you can get coffee to go with your donuts especially early in the morning before starting class for that boost!

3. THE QUICKMART SANDWICH

Nothing compares to the mean sandwich Quickmart supermarkets make. You just have to try it. It goes for roughly one hundred and eighty shillings but it's worth your money. The branches are scattered all over the CBD with one on Tom Mboya Street, another in Mfangano, and one on Moi Avenue.

4. KUKITO

The chicken at Kukito is out of this world. The restaurant is just next to Java on Kimathi Street. They have the best Kuku choma if you're looking for some meat to enjoy with your fellow students. A must-try is the Oriji aka the GOAK meaning the Greatest Of All Kukus.

5. LAVA LATTE

Located just of statehouse road is also a good joint for a comrade to spend some coins on and it is definitely worth it. They have very good decors and murals, just a cool aesthetic. They have a very simple menu with a good range of fresh pastries and their signature items like paninis and chapati melts, are a must-try.

6. KILIMANJARO JAMIA

Of course, the list wouldn't be complete without Kilimanjaro Jamia on Kimathi street. It has the best services and great food, especially for friends and family. The reviews on google say it all.

7. GREENVIEW RESTAURANT

Lastly, Greenview restaurant in Jethalal Chambers on Tubman road is guaranteed to fill a hungry student with ample quality food going for as cheap as three hundred bob only. They say the food is served so amply you cannot finish!

Next time you're famished in the CBD you can just hit up one of these spots and have quality and service worth your money!
